Calculator results are estimates
Our calculators apply standard mathematical formulas to the numbers you enter. Results may differ from the figures your bank, lender or investment provider gives you because of:
- Day-count conventions — we use a 365-day year for day-based calculations; some institutions use 360 days or actual calendar days.
- Compounding and crediting dates — interest may be accrued daily but credited monthly, or only on specific dates.
- Rounding — institutions often round interest each period; we round only for display.
- Changing rates — our calculators assume the rate stays constant.
- Fees, taxes and penalties — these are not included.
- Investment risk — assumed rates of return are not guaranteed; real returns vary and can be negative.
- Inflation — unless stated, results are in nominal (future) money.
